Paying homage to it’s origins, this beach shack was respectfully modernised by the addition of a modest extension at the rear to allow for a larger kitchen and living area with a covered deck.

Beach shacks built in the post war period have a simplicity, and a rationale dictated by the frugal nature of the times in which they were constructed. There is a lot of nostalgia for the people who spent long hot summers with their families in them, a bygone era of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

Shacks constructed up and down the coast of Australia are slowly being demolished to make way for larger houses. Fortunately, driven by the owners Jill and Marcus, the opportunity here was conservation.
