Bendalong Mountain 

The concept of the house revolves around a central, enclosed courtyard containing a 12 m-long pool and cabana, a tranquil heart around which the living spaces are arranged.

Materials were selected with the utmost respect for the landscape, aiming to complement rather than contrast with the surroundings.

Timber, concrete, and dark steel are used in their natural forms, textured to evoke a sense of raw authenticity.

Recycled blackbutt, sourced from the property itself, is employed for structural elements and cladding, while charred recycled blackbutt echoes the tones and textures of the endemic species dotting the land.

Chris’s personalised approach, combined with his building expertise, guidance, and support throughout the entire process, instilled in us a sense of comfort and confidence. The entryway, wide and welcoming, acts as a breezy, open corridor with clear glass along one side and at the end, visually extending the space to the outdoors.

The design is rooted in the philosophy of each space being designed to suit its purpose. The main living area is transparent and feels fully immersed in the landscape, whilst the bedrooms are more contained and cosy and yet still have breathtaking views to the outside.

The property’s highest point, where the dwelling resides, offers a vantage that seems to touch the sky.

The surrounding wilderness, with its mix of rugged terrain and untamed beauty, has been an essential part of the home’s design, influencing its every element.
