Perched atop a 100-acre mountain top, this dwelling sits lightly upon the land, blending seamlessly with its environment. The home’s location was chosen as the last high point before the land dips southward, offering an elevated vantage while simultaneously ensuring the dwelling’s separation from potential bushfire hazards.
This dwelling has a carefully curated yet entirely relaxed relationship with nature. Every consideration - bushfire ratings, materiality, orientation, and solar access was carefully thought out to ensure the house harmonised with its surroundings while remaining entirely self-sufficient and off the grid. The design made use of mostly natural materials, creating a balance of elegance and sustainability.
The concept of the house revolves around a central, enclosed courtyard containing a 12 m-long pool and cabana, a tranquil heart around which the living spaces are arranged.
Materials were selected with the utmost respect for the landscape, aiming to complement rather than contrast with the surroundings.
Timber, concrete, and dark steel are used in their natural forms, textured to evoke a sense of raw authenticity.
Recycled blackbutt, sourced from the property itself, is employed for structural elements and cladding, while charred recycled blackbutt echoes the tones and textures of the endemic species dotting the land.
Chris’s personalised approach, combined with his building expertise, guidance, and support throughout the entire process, instilled in us a sense of comfort and confidence. We are extremely pleased with the home he has helped us create. Based on our experiences, I highly recommend Chris as a leading builder on the South Coast, and we anticipate collaborating with New View Building Solutions again in the future.
